Over One Million Brains Served

Code Monkey hit the one-million-views mark a few months back, and the only one that was even close was “Re: Your Brains“.  That one’s my oldest video (and my weakest, IMO) but it’s been passed around the Interwebs for a long time, and there’s an app in Facebook that links to it, so it’s popular.  I’ve been keeping an eye on it, and I figured it may pass the one-million-views mark itself in a couple of weeks or so.

But then it happened.  Apparently some werewolf app in Facebook was down for maintenace and had this message posted:

WereWolves is in maintenence mode!
Why are we in maintenence mode? Either:

We need more servers. AGAIN.
We’ve been coding whilst downing scotch.
We do this just to mess with you.
We’re watching Re: Your Brains. AGAIN.
All of the above.

And that little push was all it took for thousands of Facebookers, temporarily deprived of the ability to infect other Facebookers and looking for something to do, to come to YouTube and watch my video.  The number of views for “Brains” jumped by over 35,000 just yesterday, and I’m happy to say that I now have two videos that have been viewed over a million times.  That’s like being a best-selling author or something, right?

December 1st?

It turns out that December 1st is Jonathan Coulton’s birthday, and a bunch of people over on Coulton’s forums are trying to organize some kind of a people-power momentum generator for that day.  Things like bombarding local radio stations with requests for Coulton songs, trying to arrange Coulton interviews, or even just writing Jonathan Coulton’s Web site address in chalk on the sidewalk outside Starbucks or other Internet cafes so people will check him out.

I dig that kind of people-powered stuff, and I’ll tell you what I told them:  it’s not impossible that I could get another video out in time for the Dec. 1st event.  That date’s coming up really fast though, so no promises.
